Because You Can Never Have Too Much Lenition

February 27, 2011

When using anns an with b, c, g, m, and p, an becomes a’ and the following noun lenites:

  • Tha iad a’ cadail anns a’ bhar.   (VAHR)  They are sleeping in the bar.
  • Tha iad a’ cadail anns a’ chidsin.  (CHEED-shin) They are sleeping in the kitchen.
  • Tha iad a’ cadail anns a’ bhata-sabhailte. (VAH-tuh SAH-vulcha) They are sleeping in the lifeboat.
  • Tha iad a’ cadail anns a’ bhanca.  (VAHN-kuh) They are sleeping in the bank.
  • Tha iad a’ cadail anns a’ bhaile.  (VAH-luh) They are sleeping in the town.

As always, use previously learned verbs, pronouns, and nouns to switch these sentences around and practice.

Now’s a good chance to review some of the previously posted Can Seo videos.
